"There are couple of things that dual ethernet ports can accomplish. If you're on a network with virtual LANs, your Mac can have a 'foot' on each one. This is mainly useful if you're running Server and want/need services on both VLANS. You can combine both ports into one virtual Ethernet port. This is called 'link aggregation'.
