The now stand-alone personal computer and printer hardware business is reviewing its legal advisors following its separation from Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE), which now functions as a separate software business. Over the summer, HP Inc sent a 17-page request for proposal (RFP) to law firms: ‘Group Legal Affairs will select a small group of legal services providers that have invested in understanding the company’s people, products, history, organizational culture and goals,’ it reads. The RFP also stipulates that firms which receive more than $5m in legal fees from HP Inc per year will be required to provide lawyers on secondment, and that law firm offices outside the US must use local rates for their services. Both HP Inc and its former counterpart HPE are producing large volumes of legal work as they struggle to improve profitability as independent entities. HP Inc’s new panel will run for two years, between 1 November 2016 and 31 October 2018.
