14 DAY TRIAL // Terry Myerson, who is currently in charge of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, will take over the leading role of the Windows Server team as well, following new management changes announced by CEO Satya Nadella internally.
Until now, Windows Server has been headed by Scott Guthrie and has been part of the Cloud and Enterprises group, so the change makes sense because Windows and Windows Server share the same core. All Windows versions offered by Microsoft are now part of the same unit, so the company expects to streamline the collaboration process between teams working on Windows and Windows Server.
“As we advance our goal to build operating systems that provide the best experiences from the smallest IoT devices to the largest scale server deployments in public and private clouds, the Windows Server team will move from the Cloud + Enterprise Group to the Windows and Devices Group. These groups already work closely together and we believe this move will help us bring even more value to our customers as we deliver our most cloud-ready server OS with the Windows Server 2016 launch this fall,” a company spokesperson is quoted as saying by ZDNet.
Changes to happen in the next couple of months
Scott Guthrie will remain the leader of the Cloud and Enterprise unit, but without the Windows Server team, while Terry Myerson will be the head of the Windows and Devices Group, which now includes the Server division as well.
As part of this transition, the Windows Server Engineering and the Remote Desktop Services teams will also move to Windows and Devices Group, but their current heads, namely Mike Neil and Brad Anderson, respectively, will remain with the Cloud and Enterprise unit. Their new roles, however, are not yet known.
Also, there’s still no information as to when these changes could take place within the company, but given the fact that the Anniversary Update for Windows will debut in August for PCs and in September for servers, everything should happen sometime in the next couple of months.
