Dell is planning to discontinue its Venue line of Android tablets and cease issuing OS updates. The move to get out of the Android market, at least for the immediate future, will allow Dell to focus on its Windows 2-in-1 devices.

Kirk Schell, VP of commercial client solutions at Dell, dedicated a blog post to why tablets will no longer be a focal point and why 2-in-1s are the future. "2-in-1s with larger screens in the 10- to 13-inch range are offering a laptop-first experience with the convenience of a tablet when needed," he wrote. "This is where our customers are asking us to invest and innovate."

While there definitely are a ton of cheap Android tablets on the market, it’s sad to see the Venue line go because it was actually good! At the time of the Venue 8 7000 Series’ debut in 2014, the tablet was the thinnest on the market with essentially no bezels and an 8.4-inch screen. Pour one out for Venue. It was nice knowing you.
