AMD Polaris GPU release date news 2016: To be launched before the school year starts?

It appears that the release of AMD's Polaris Radeon graphics card will happen within the next few months as the original equipment manufacturer company itself revealed that the new GPUs will be ready before the "back to school" season begins this year. For the meantime, game and tech enthusiasts who are following the developments of AMD's cutting edge graphics technology will only need to sit back and wait until the world sees the first graphics product driven by the Polaris architecture.

The period where students return to school for the next academic year spans between the months of July until early September, and according to WCCFTech, AMD president and CEO Lisa Su revealed that the company is eyeing for Polaris GPUs launching before this period.

It makes sense that AMD will release the new Polaris graphics card before the annual school year resumes. OEMs such as HP, Lenovo and Dell treat the annual back to school season as a crucial window to develop new products. They normally launch new devices in North America like laptops and smartphones within this period, and it is beneficial for AMD if their latest GPUs are already at hand so that the OEMs can deploy their latest graphics technology into their products.

On the other hand, Fudzilla reported that the anticipated AMD Radeon RX 480 based on Polaris architecture will be showcased by AMD at Computex 2016. The said event will run from May 31 to June 4. AMD's presentation will showcase some of the company's biggest technological projects this year, although the very highlight of this presentation will be the Polaris GPUs.

The new Polaris-based graphics card is said to come in two variants, which will be named as the Radeon R9 480 and R9 480X. These graphics cards are expected to be a part of the mid-range lineup of AMD, although the early outlook of the Polaris GPU's performance is already impressive, with reports of their performance higher than that of the Radeon R9 390, and even the R9 390X.
