The Google app for iOS has been given a makeover. With the latest update, the Google app on iPhones and iPads is speedier than ever.

Google shared this big news via a blog post it published on May 27.

"We've cut down loading time and updated the app with some new features to help you save time and get the information you need as quickly as possible," said Google's director of product management Unni Narayanan.

Faster Experience

With the beefed-up iOS app, carrying out a search is "faster every step of the way."

The Mountain View-based firm said that every time iOS users launch the Google app on their devices, anything loads faster as opposed to their previous experience in the earlier version of the app.

The company even claimed that all in all, app users will be able to save a total of 6.5 million hours within this year through the updates.

Now Cards Enhancements

Google also gave a boost to Now cards.

With the update on board, users can now instantly stream sports highlights from the Now cards.

The update is just in time for the NBA and NHL playoffs. Also, the Olympics is just around the corner — thus, this particular feature that Google added into the app is just perfect for iDevice users.

As soon as users get a Now card with sports highlights, what they simply have to do is hit the play button and view the videos straight from the Google app.

AMP For News

That's not all the company has thrown in to sweeten the pot.

Following the firm's announcement on the arrival of the so-called Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) on mobile Web a few months ago, Google now reveals that AMP has just landed on the iOS version of the Google app.

What this means is that news articles from a multitude of publishers across the globe will easily load to improve user experience.

AMP-optimized articles are those that come with a lightning bolt icon. These stories also show up in the top stories section.

To boil things down, whether users are in the hunt for new stories or video playbacks, the amped-up Google app for iOS "got you covered, faster."

This latest version of the app can already be downloaded via the App Store.
