Diagnosing and Treating Diabetes Patients? There’s An App For That!

ORLANDO, Fla.--()--Physicians working with patients being evaluated and treated for type 2 diabetes now have access to an in-depth, point-of-care app, compliments of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and the American College of Endocrinology (ACE).

Derived from the 2016 AACE/ACE Comprehensive Type 2 Diabetes Algorithm (an updated supplement to the 2015 AACE/ACE Clinical Practice Guidelines for Developing a Diabetes Mellitus Comprehensive Care Plan), the app offers practical clinical guidance about the patient’s spectrum of risks and complications and evidence-based approaches to treatment.

“The app was developed to assist all those who treat or counsel patients with diabetes,” said Dr. Jeffrey R. Garber, a member of the AACE/ACE Task Force that authored the algorithm that the app is based on. “It incorporates the most current and effective approach to managing diabetes into a readily accessible and easy to use decision-making tool.”

The app includes the algorithm executive summary along with informational buttons that help guide the user through an action-driven treatment pathway. The app also can be helpful other members of the patient care team in managing patients with diabetes. Further, patients can download the free app and become a greater participant in their own care.

AACE unveiled the AACE/ACE Comprehensive Type 2 Diabetes Algorithm App during its 25th Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress (#25thAACE) in Orlando. It is available domestically at the Apple App Store and Google Play. Click here for a download link: https://www.aace.com/apps/type2diabetes.
