Cortana update brings Android notifications to Windows 10 Action Center for Insiders

A few weeks ago, at its Build 2016 developer conference, Microsoft announced details of improvements on the way to the Action Center, the notifications panel in Windows 10. Among the new additions, Microsoft promised that it would add support for notifications from Android devices to appear on Windows 10 PCs.

The cross-device support relies on Cortana for Android, using the assistant to act as a 'bridge' between Android and Windows, to sync everything up across a user's Microsoft account. A new version of Cortana for Android (1.7.0.1021-enus-release) that appeared yesterday is now bringing that feature to users for the first time.

As WinBeta reports, Reddit user jhoff80 first spotted the feature being activated, posting screenshots including the one shown here. Users will be able to not only see notifications from their Android handsets on their Windows 10 devices, but also interact with them - for example, dismissing a notification on their PC which is then cleared from their phone too.

The functionality will be delivered as part of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update this summer, but as with other new features, Insiders will be able to test it before then on the newest preview builds of the OS.

The update to Cortana for Android that brings this functionality is rolling out now. You can download the app from the Google Play Store here.
