New Apple Site Lets Users Create Custom 'Shot on iPhone' Mother's Day Video

Following the launch of its "Shot on iPhone" Mother's Day ad, Apple has created a dedicated website that allows customers to create their own Mother's Day video by uploading images of their mom.

The simple site, first shared by iPhone in Canada, opens with an upload image link, which allows users to upload a photo. The photo is then inserted into a customized version of Apple's Mother's Day video and can be uploaded directly to Facebook.

Content wise, the video is identical to Apple's Mother's Day Shot on iPhone ad, featuring photos of mothers from iPhone users around the world, with the addition of the user-uploaded photo.

The site, which is a new marketing tactic for Apple, may have been created by Apple advertising partner Media Arts Lab, as an employee was the first person to tweet out a link to the new site. Apple's video creation tool comes just ahead of Mother's Day, which occurs on Sunday, May 8.

Fun fact: although that picture appears to be a mother and her baby on first glance, it's actually Mad Men's Peggy Olson showing off her crazily buff arm.

People can't create their own meaningful way to acknowledge their mom's these days, they need a completely white sliced bread solution? This is just like all the gimmicks at Facebook.
These days? You know, Hallmark Cards was founded 109 years ago. And before that, there were probably people who complained when others didn't make their own stationary from pulp.

The more I think about this, the more I'm disappointed in Apple.
Apple should apply a filter on what is released into public and use the word "NO" more often.
This Mother's Day campaign is a completely missed opportunity. Uploading an image to feature in what is a very average video sequence misses the mark entirely.
What Apple could have done was a simple elegant advertisement showing users calling their mom's with an iPhone, highlighting the most basic but most intimate features of the iPhone, making a simple phone call to say "hi" and "thanks".

Seems like a natural extension of the campaign. Too bad mothers day has gone already - in the UK :p

But then again, every day is mothers day ;)

I'd be embarrassed to send that and so should others. It would be better not bothering and being honest about forgetting and taking her out for lunch or dinner the following day. :)
Apple is a design company, not a marketing company, it needs to remember that.
I take it all back, I thought you could upload multiple photos to create a montage for your mum.

You can upload one stupid photo, so the whole point of This stupid ad is to make this ad viral. LAME

I can see my mum saying, what's with all the pictures of other mums, and mine last..... This is totally lame, and only designed to sent the ad on.

Apple is very much a markerting company, jobs was a markerting genius :) what's is not is a lame markerting company....well it never used to be, bit this is lame crap :(

Ironically, you can't use the website if you're using an ad blocker, which is a feature on iOS.

Ha ha ha this says everything about current state of apple software Dev. Half arsed effort to rush it out, and fix it as you go....patch incoming

Pretty lame actually.
This. Facebook (although I just loathe them) makes amazing videos automatically. Apple comes out with ... this? Unimpressive. Although, you'll get a hundred comments here about people who feel you shouldn't comment if you aren't in love with whatever move Apple makes, even if it's lame.
