Game Rejected From App Store for Depicting Child Abuse

A video game that has been bouncing around the PC for years won't find its way to iOS anytime soon, according to its developer.

As reported by Eurogamer, Tyrone Rodriguez, one of the people behind The Binding of Isaac, tweeted over the weekend that Apple will not allow the game into its App Store for violating its terms. Specifically, Apple says the app "contains content or features that depict violence towards, or abuse of, children, which is not allowed on the app."

Rodriguez responded with a simple tweet:

He later said he "got a hold of a human, [but] was directed to use generic contact form via Resolution Center."

The game is inspired by the Biblical story of Isaac, whose mother received a message from God demanding that she prove her faith by killing her son. The game requires that Isaac, a child, escape the basement of the home he shares with his mother. That basement, which is set up like a dungeon, is filled with monsters.

The game launched in 2011 on Windows, and was later ported to OS X and Linux. It's also availbale on consoles like the PlayStation 4. 

Rodriguez did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Apple is notorious for blocking apps that it deems inappropriate. Apple has moved to be slightly more transparent over the years about its process, but some developers still get caught in its crosshairs.
