Do You Have A Broken iPhone? Apple Will Let You Trade It In For Credit

This article is more than 8 years old.

Apple  will start accepting iPhones with broken screens, cameras and buttons for credit next week, according to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac. The trade in values for the broken devices are $50 for the iPhone 5S, $200 for the iPhone 6 and $250 for the iPhone 6 Plus. If you have a larger storage size device, then it will likely be worth more.

The broken iPhone values appear to be worth about one-third less or half the value of comparable devices in good condition. For example, trading in an iPhone 6 in good condition will get you about $300. The broken iPhone trade in program may encourage consumers to upgrade their devices rather than paying for just a screen repair -- which may be cheaper in some cases.

Gurman's sources are also reporting that Apple retail employees will be authorized to install screen protectors on iPhones. Apple does not sell its own screen protectors, but retail employees will install your third party screen protector if you buy one from the Apple store. The screen protector program will start "in the coming weeks."

Apple partnered with at least one screen protector company to set up dedicated screen protector installation machines at the back of its stores. It is believed that Belkin is one of the companies involved. In the past, Apple retail store employees were not authorized to install screen protectors on customer iPhones just in case something goes wrong. If the machine is unable to properly apply the screen protector on the iPhone, then Apple will provide a free replacement. Below is a video showing how a screen protector is installed on an iPhone:
