It’s no secret that the iPhone 6s packs a pretty darn great camera, but how does it compare to a professional DSLR like the Nikon D750?

A recent 4K video shootout compares the two and, wouldn’t you know it, finds that Apple’s next-gen handset pretty much owns the Nikon in terms of filming beautiful, crisply detailed footage.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that a camera like the Nikon D750 is valueless. 4K shooting is basically an extra for the camera, much as it is for the iPhone. It’s also much easier to switch lenses on the Nikon. And the footage, shot by YouTuber Lee Morris of Fstoppers, is all captured under optimal conditions, with no low-light testing.

With that proviso, however, it’s astonishing how great the iPhone 6s camera is. Just 10 years ago, what were then called “smartphones” could only shoot low-res, pixelated still images and video. It’s a cliche to talk about high-tech democratizing industries, but when it comes to putting high-quality cameras in the hands of the masses, that’s exactly what devices like the iPhone have done.

Color me impressed.
