Google Photos for iOS Updated, No Chromecast Support (Yet)

Google added Chromecast support for Android last month and support for iOS is "coming soon."

Google Photos Review

Google has beefed up its Photos app for iOS, but one highly requested feature is still missing.

The Web giant on Friday launched the latest version of the app, which includes "more people features," better support for animations, and more. But on the down side, the iOS version still won't work with your Chromecast.

Google added Chromecast support for Android last month and support for iOS is "coming soon," but the company didn't offer a specific launch date. "We know the timelapse is making you shutter," the company quipped in a Google+ post.

For now, the latest iteration of the app lets you label and merge people groupings in search. This way, once labeled, you can search for people or combine people, place, and thing search terms for more precise results. You will, for instance, be able to search for specific things like "Juliana at the beach in Hawaii," Google said.

Besides that, you can now share animations directly to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and they will stay animated.

Google also made a number of other unspecified performance improvements and bug fixes to make the app run better overall. Google promised the app will now start up faster than before, for example.

Google first introduced the Photos app in May, though not without some controversy. The app offers unlimited free storage for photos up to 16 megapixels and high-definition video up to 1080p.
