Apple TV catches Game Pass service featuring live preseason football games on updated NFL app

Apple TV NFL Game Pass

Apple TV users may notice a new coat of paint on the NFL app today. That’s because the set-top box’s NFL channel has received a major update that adds the new Game Pass feature for football fans. We first learned last month that the NFL’s Game Pass service was headed to Apple TV.

Game Pass on Apple TV currently offers up both live and on demand preseason football games both in full and condensed versions for subscribers, plus highlights from each game that anyone can view for free. Game Pass also boasts featuring every NFL game since 2012 in HD without commercials including the last Super Bowl. Beyond 2012, Game Pass includes footage dating back to 2009.

Subscribing to Game Pass through Apple TV costs $99.99 with a subscription running through July 31st of next year. Aside from being able to view preseason games out of market, Game Pass offers up “all 256 regular season games on-demand” across various platforms. While it still doesn’t offer up live gameplay for regular season games, a subscription does include access to gameday audio. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the new feature highlighted next week as Apple unveils an updated Apple TV box on September 9th.

If it’s not live games, then what’s the point? Once someone figures out how to provide live sports, cable/satellite are doomed.

      Exactly.

Add live games (even for the $300 or so Sunday Ticket costs) and I’m all over it. I would dump DirecTV the next day.

MLB, NHL and NBA have offered live sports subscriptions for years.

I meant to provide a single ‘channel’ for sports. IE, an ESPN specific for each area so people can watch all local teams. Unfortunately, it’ll cost more then it would just to subscribe to cable/satellite to get all of those separately.

It could have been made a whole lot clearer what all exactly GP provides and doesn’t provide. Sheesh!

But then I’m not interested in overhyped steroid dementia ball anyway.

Odd how they will stream the SuperBowl for free but expect people to pay for the rest of the games.

It just feels as if they are close to doing live games. At 300$ a pop, they’d probably secure 10M subscriptions easy.

No live games, and no live games a la cart.

    Not interested.

Will continue to patron my local sports bar where i can see the game i want to see and not pay for all the others i have no interest in.

Game Pass includes live games for users outside the U.S. …. I’m sure the NFL is just stuck in deals with TV networks. The moment they re-negotiate those deals that gives them (the NFL) the opportunity to market online steaming of all games for the US market, they will go that route.

Game Pass (outside the US) is pretty awesome. It’s 250 dollars a season, but so worth it. All games live and on demand

    (I’m in Germany)

… and I’m you guys,… the moment someone can bring live coverage of the major sports / leagues and not overly charge for it, regular TV is finally dead.

My dream is to watch in-market games via Apple TV. Right now, blackout rules are pretty awful, but I have a feeling that the major sports leagues will force the networks to allow streaming of in-market games in exchange for a bigger piece of the pie.

Buyer beware. This company has THE WORST customer service I have ever dealt with. I subscribed under the impression that regular season games would be live. Trying to cancel was a nightmare. I tried contacting them through Twitter, online customer support, the phone number listed, and through email. After 3 days I received two automated emails that had nothing to do with my question. Apple however refunded my purchase through their app support in less than 2 minutes. I saw other reviews as well that said that once you subscribe they will charge you next year. There was no option to remove or edit my payment information online at all. Shady shady shady.

Now my MLB.TV app doesn’t work.

There are live games as well..but not in the USA. International Game Pass is unfortunately siginificantly more expensive 180 euro :(
