LG’s G4 laughs in the face of water, after surviving 2 hours submerged in a sink

When LG revealed its flagship G4 smartphone, the company didn’t mention any waterproof rating. As far as the eye can see, the G4 doesn’t even have the same nanocoating that Motorola’s smartphones have to protect against damage. Regardless, YouTube user Harris Craycraft decided to put the G4 to the test by dunking it in water to see whether it could survive the water-filled ordeal.

Although the G4 was only placed in a sink filled with 4 inches of water, it was submerged for more than 2 hours, and it actually survived the ordeal. Of course, since the G4 wasn’t designed to fend off water, the wet stuff managed to eek its way through the back cover. In order to absorb the water, Craycraft immediately removed the battery and placed the G4 inside of a container of Uncle Ben’s rice.

Afterwards, he popped the battery back in and — lo and behold — the G4 turned on, and all was well in the world.

Of course, Craycraft most likely filmed this out of curiosity, rather than with the intent of damaging the phone. As such, we will stress that the G4 is in no way water-resistant or waterproof. If your G4 takes on some water, you’ll want to immediately remove the battery. The most common course of action is to then place the phone in either rice or silica gel for at least 24 hours, though we’re sure citizens of the Internet have come up with different ways to save your phone from a watery death.

For those of you who don’t know already, LG’s latest and greatest phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which is coupled with 3GB of RAM. The screen measures 5.5-inches and sports a stunning 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution. When we reviewed the G4, we thought it was one of the best smartphones of 2015 because of its excellent camera performance, quality display, and removable battery — a feature that will probably save your G4 if it goes for a splash.
