We all know Apple aims high, so it's no surprise to hear plans for its long-rumoured web TV service might be delayed as it seeks local content deals.

In a bid to give the platform that standout factor, Apple apparently want programming from local broadcast stations across the US, reports Re/Code.

But with so many local stations and affiliates, it's proving to be a lengthy process.

You only have to look at existing web TV providers such as Sling TV and even the Watch ABC app to see that local programming is limited to certain cities due to the complexity of obtaining localised content.

As such, Apple's offering may not be ready to launch by early fall - a date that has been widely speculated - nor are details likely to surface at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8.

It was previously reported that Apple had persuaded 25 channels to join the platform, including broadcasters such as ABC, CBS and Fox.

NBC, USA and Bravo networks may be missing, however, due to a falling out with parent company Comcast over the X1 web-enabled set-top box.
