Spotify announced yesterday that it would be redesigning its iOS application with support for new features like original video clips and podcasts. A few glimpses of the updated version of the music streaming app were shown off during the announcement, but today a tipster has supplied us with a collection of screenshots from a beta build of the upcoming release.
Below you’ll find a gallery demonstrating the podcast integration, running speed-based tempo detection, and more. Almost every corner of the app has been completely overhauled with a new design. Many of the icons in the older app have been removed in favor of simple text labels, and a host of new features have been added.
Apple is set to debut its own Spotify competitor next month at WWDC alongside the next generation of its mobile and desktop software.
No details have been provided yet on when this version of Spotify will be available, but some users are reporting that it’s rolling out to them already, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before everyone has it. Until then, here’s a look at what you can expect:

I also have this “beta” build as I was asked to try out experimental features in the app. Confusing at first to find some of the things I used to use.
i got this new app the day it was announced. I wish spotify would apt for bigger art work instead of making it so small. But none the less. the app is simply gorgeous.

I just hope they’ve sorted out the mess they made of Carplay. Spotify on Carplay is actually unusable. It’ll open, have no access to playing Audio due to permission. You have to then unlock the iPhone, pause and restart the music which will begin to play, then instead of the song you’ve asked, it’ll play some random song from one of your playlists instead forcing you to manually use the iPhone to find the right song. After that, you can use the Carplay interface without issues.
Lots of people are reporting the same on the Spotify forums, and shag all has been done about it.
Yeah sort of awkward now that Apple has their own Spotify competitor in the works and aren’t working on Beats Music with CarPlay for that reason.
Doesn’t anyone listen to albums anymore? I don’t care about playlists.
Kinda have to agree, a little. I like playlists but I prefer MY playlists.
Still, predefined playlists are good for music discovery but then again so is the Radio function.
They did announce the rollout during the media event. The US, UK, Germany and their home country of Sweden are where this is initially rolling out to users. If you’re not immediately included in the initial roll out you can go to settings and opt in.
They must be gating their access right now. I’ve gone to Setting on several devices and I don’t get a message that allows me to opt-in.

Anyone can get this. Just go into Settings in your Spotify app and at the top it will ask you “Do you want to try something new”… and go for it.
So far it’s just ok. Spotify was already great so I don’t think it really needed to change much anyway.

I wish you were right. The feature is actually not available to everyone. I have a premium account and there have been no changes to my iOS app yet.
