Apple to unveil 'the future of iOS and OS X' at WWDC on June 8-12

Apple's 2015 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) will kick off on June 8 in San Francisco's Moscone West where the company is expected to introduce new or updated hardware products, including the rumored next-generation Apple TV and apps. The tagline for the 2015 WWDC is "The epicenter of change."

Apple will be holding WWDC 2015, featuring over 100 technical sessions, 1,000 Apple engineers and hands-on labs for the 26th consecutive year through June 12. Apple will also host its Design Awards to highlight apps for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac that "demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design."

Apple has indicated that developers attending the event will "learn about the future of iOS and OS X," which means that developers could get a first look at the next versions of OS X for desktops and laptops and iOS for the iPhone and iPad. "We've got incredible new technologies for iOS and OS X to share with developers at WWDC and around the world, and can't wait to see the next generation of apps they create," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said in a press release.

Apple had introduced the MacBook Pro with Retina Display at the 2012 WWDC and the Mac Pro at the following year's conference. At last year's WWDC, Apple had unveiled iOS 8 with new features like the HealthKit for developers to create health-focused apps, and is expected to release more details about the Beats Music subscription service at this year's event.

Developers can apply for tickets to the event through the WWDC website until Friday, April 17 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Apple will issue tickets through a random selection process and developers will learn about their application status by Monday, April 20 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time. Given the huge demand for tickets and limited space, Apple has requested developers to apply early for the tickets costing $1,599 per person. Apple will also offer about 350 WWDC Scholarships, providing students and members of participating STEM organizations globally the opportunity to win a free ticket.
