Microsoft is already hard at work to bring Windows 10 to the market as soon as possible, but while the company remained tight-lipped on any release date for the new OS, its partners are not that keen on keeping these details secret.

AMD, for instance, said during its recent earnings call that Microsoft is set to launch Windows 10 in late July, explaining that making the most of the back to school season is indeed a priority.

“What we also are factoring in is, with the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory buildup,” Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, said in a statement, clearly pointing out that the new operating system is expected to see daylight this summer.

RTM or full launch in July?

Even though AMD says that Microsoft would launch Windows 10 “at the end of July,” it’s still not very clear whether the company is referring to RTM or the full launch of the operating system.

Previous details on this pointed out that Windows 10 is set to reach RTM sometime in June while full availability was prepared for August, at approximately two months after RTM.

The July release date that AMD’s CEO somehow let slip seems to fit this schedule, as Microsoft wants to bring Windows 10 to the market, together with devices running it, before the back to school season in order to ensure rapid adoption and a quick increase in market share on the short term.

Windows 10 will be offered as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers within the first year after launch while enterprises will still have to pay for it. Prices for enterprises will be announced at a later date, most likely during the summer.
