Rumours suggest Samsung may be thinking about buying AMD.

Extreme Tech reports that Samsung buying the chip firm could be the next logical step to better compete with companies such as Qualcomm and Intel.

AMD has been experiencing stormy seas as of late, with stock being impacted by short selling and tough competition. 2014 was a tough year for AMD.

Reports say AMD’s stock was trading at $2.66, which is a drop from the $9.81 it was sitting at five years ago.

An AMD spokesperson told PCR: “We don’t comment on rumour or speculation."

In other AMD news: AMD recently announced the release of its FreeSync monitors for shipping. It also had impressive results with its Mantle API versus DirectX 12 and DX11.
