Gmail iOS Actionable Notifications

Heads up, iPhone and iPad users. The Gmail app is getting a few handy updates this week, which should save you some time when dealing with your email.

The latest version, released Thursday, lets you take quick actions — like reply to a message or archive it — right from your lock screen, or the notification that pops up on your phone.

"These quick actions help you stay on top of your messages without having to open the app," Google wrote in a post about the update.

Besides that, you can now email files from other apps, making it quicker and easier to attach photos, links, and documents directly to a Gmail message. Just select Gmail in the share menu to start attaching files directly from iPhoto, Chrome, and other apps.

Finally, the update brings a new viewer for attachments.

"Using your attachments on mobile can be a pain," Google wrote. "With the new attachment viewer you can now open files of any kind directly into the app of your choosing."

Head over to the App Store to grab this update or download the Gmail app if you don't already have it installed on your phone.

Meanwhile, Google has been busy this week rolling out updates. Besides making your email a little more manageable, the Web giant wants to help you compare auto insurance, get all your contacts cleaned up, and even make you a martini.
