Momentum is a delightful habit tracker for iPhone

Growing up, I was under the impression that habits were something to avoid. Burping, being late, and eating too many cookies were all habits my parents tried to steer me away from. Habits are not always bad, though. Exercising every day, learning a new word, and practicing an instrument are all good habits to get into.

Momentum is a productivity app that helps you get into the habit of doing something good. If you want to start something new, but have trouble sticking to your goal, this app sends you friendly reminders to stay on track.

To get started, users enter a habit they want to track. You can choose from a list of premade popular habits, like reading, exercising, or getting to “inbox zero.” Or, you can create your own, customized habit for anything you’d like, even a bad one.

Then, select how many days per week you would like to repeat the habit. The app is defaulted to every day, but you can leave off the weekends, or only schedule it every other day.

You can set a reminder to receive a notification of an impending habit goal and adjust a target for how many days in a week it would take to complete a goal.

Once a habit is set, all you have to do is complete it. When you do, tap the day you completed it on the calendar and that day will switch from gray to green. If you have more than one habit, you can swipe from the left or right to switch to a different one and complete it.

You can also skip a goal. This allows you to keep your habit streak going if there is a legitimate reason you can’t complete it on a specific day. For example, if your habit is to sing an opera every day, but you are flying for 18 hours straight, your travel companions may not appreciate your lovely voice. Skip the day, but still keep your streak going.

The Notification Center widget puts your list of habits and their status on your Lock Screen in the Today View. You can quickly view your progress to see if you’ve been following your goal.
