Tuesday, Snapchat announced a new feature called Discover which highlights curated stories from Snapchat’s different editorial teams.

Snapchat is moving to become a media platform so they’ve partnered with some of the major names in media like the ESPN, Vice and CNN to build a storytelling format which puts the narrative first.

“This is not social media” nor is it aboutwhat’s most new and trending, remarked the firm in a blog post. No, sir — Snapchat believes in curation and high-quality content so “We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what’s important.”

Stories are organized by channels related to specific topics of interest, each refreshed once every 24 hours. To open an edition, just tap it. Swipe left to browse Snaps, or swipe up on a Snap for more. Each top Snap is home to some nice long-form videos and articles so get discovering.

The Verge reports that Discover was supposed to debut last November with partner content only, but Snapchat recently changed its mind and figured Discover should put some original content in the curated section of the app.

Indeed, as Snapchat put it, Discover is has been built for creatives who are often forced to accommodate new technologies in order to distribute their work.

“This time we built the technology to serve the art: each edition includes full screen photos and videos, awesome long form layouts, and gorgeous advertising,” says the startup.

It’s an ad-supported service so expect to see advertising on both third-party and Snapchat’s own content.

Discover is available now via the freshly updated Snapchat 9.0 for iOS.
