Microsoft plans to release Windows 10 in early fall 2015

Windows 10 is still in the works right now at Microsoft, but the whole world is excited to say the least about this new operating system, especially because it comes to fix many of the annoyances found in the original modern OS flavor Windows 8.

And as far as tech analysts are concerned, they do expect Windows 10 to perform really well when it hits the market in 2015, especially because it brings some of the features that were initially available in Windows 7 and removed in Windows 8, such as the Start menu.

Pacific Crest and Microsoft analyst Brendan Barnicle wrote in a note to investors that companies were already showing interest in Windows 10, which could be an indication that the new operating system could enjoy the same success as Windows 7 did.

Weak adoption of Windows 8

Back in October 2012, Microsoft launched Windows 8 with much fanfare, hoping to see everyone moving from old OS versions such as Windows XP and Windows Vista to the new modern platform.

The mix of a touch – desktop environment, however, caused quite a controversy around Microsoft’s new approach, so it all led to slow adoption figures that in the end proved that Redmond made a huge mistake by pushing users off the desktop all of a sudden.

Barnicle forecasts that, after the disappointing performance of Windows 8, Windows 10 will come to the rescue and experience adoption figures similar to those of Windows 7.

“Microsoft saw relatively weak adoption of Windows 8, but early reviews are encouraging for Windows 10. The Windows 10 upgrade cycle could be like Windows 7. While we believe it will not be as strong an upgrade cycle as the XP expiration cycle, Windows 10 could provide upside to our F2016 D&C licensing revenue estimates, which are currently modeled to be flat,” he explained.

Windows 10 coming next year

Everyone can give Windows 10 a shot right now by installing the technical preview, but there are still a lot of improvements to be made to this particular project.

Sources close to the matter have revealed that Windows 10 is scheduled to launch in late summer or early fall 2015, and Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s COO, confirmed in a recent conference that these dates could indeed be accurate.

Next month, Microsoft will be holding a dedicated Windows 10 event for consumers on January 21 and expect new features to see daylight, including Continuum and a more refined version of Cortana.
