Apple releases new public beta for OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

December 21, 2014

Apple has just released a new beta for OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. But rather than being available to registered developers, the new prerelease build is available to public beta testers.

As reported by 9to5Mac, the new public beta is labeled with the build number 14C81h. It may be downloaded by members of Apple’s public beta program from the Updates tab in the Mac App Store.

It comes just about a week after Apple released the third developer beta of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 with the build number 14C81f. Presumably, as with that developer beta, the focus areas for public beta testers are Mail, VoiceOver, and, most important, Wi-Fi connectivity.

Wi-Fi connectivity issues were supposed to have been resolved with the release of OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 last month. But there remain certain issues affecting Wi-Fi, which Apple has apparently been seeking to address with its beta builds for OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.

With the release of the new public beta for OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, Apple is making good on its promise of continuing its public beta program even after the official launch of OS X Yosemite 10.10.

OS X Yosemite 10.10 was officially launched in mid-October, featuring a substantial visual redesign and tie-ins with iOS 8 such as Continuity and iCloud Drive.

Just a couple of days ago, Apple released the third developer beta of iOS 8.2, which brings the latest support for WatchKit, the software development toolset for the upcoming Apple Watch.
