One of the most important technologies powering many of the CAD, CAID and 3D software programs on both Mac, Windows and Linux, has been updated to version 27.1. The update delivers numerous advancements.

Parasolid v27.1 further enables software developers to deliver workflow and productivity enhancements to users. Parasolid provides a high-level geometric functionality that can be most productively and robustly achieved at the kernel modeler level, which allows application developers to focus on their customers’ other requirements. Enhancements fall into the area of bending, surfacing, modeling support and platform support.

The new blending support helps extend the control over the shape of blends. This includes more easily controlling the profile of G2 face blends by providing constant depth and skew values as well as the ability to define variable radius edge blend parameters over a chain of edges in addition to edge by edge blending to give smoother results (see image 01).

Surfacing enhancements give further flexibility in desired design results within an operation. The enhancements allow users to replace sharp mitered corners created by sweeping a profile along a sharp non-G1 path with rounded corners; as well as align parameterization of extruded surfaces with the extrude direction.

It is also now possible to optimize parameterization of the new face when replacing a set of faces with a single face. V27.1 allows the ability to sweep a profile along a path with the option to extend the path beyond one or more faces used to lock the profile.

02 - The left is a traditional sweep of a tool body along a path. On the right, the red faces of the tool body are specified as unimportant to the result so their precise sweep is simplified to the red caping surface. New in Parasolid v27.1

Modeling enhancements include the ability to imprint a set of curves that are coincident with a face as a group, which improves performance and robustness. The ability to imprint a curve onto faces of a body with greater influence by controlling how to imprint onto hidden faces.
