Following the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, an App Store record falls

November 24, 2014

The App Store recorded its best month in terms of downloads in October, just weeks after the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus arrived in stores. This news comes from Fiksu, which recently published its latest App Store Competitive Index.

In October, App Store downloads reached a record 7.8 million per day. This compared to 5.5 million per day in September. This represented an increase of 39 percent year-over-year, and a bump of 42 percent month over month.

According to Micah Adler, CEO of Fiksu:

While recent indexes have shown a steady stream of escalating costs, the October index numbers validate another important trend: the increasing importance of apps to consumers. Mobile marketers must start thinking strategically about their marketing tactics over the longer term and figure out how to use apps to connect with customers. October’s hindsight should serve as a guide for marketers preparing for impending holiday activity.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus arrived in stores on Sept. 19. The Fiksu Competitive Index looks at downloads for the top 200 free apps in the App Store.
