Tapventures Review

It’s an easy insult to state that some games essentially play themselves. We’ve all muttered such things at games full of timers and surprisingly little actual gameplay. In the case of Tapventures, however, that’s actually true. At least after the first early minutes of it, you can leave it be and it’ll figure out the rest. The worst part? Even though you know that it doesn’t deserve your time, you’ll still find yourself checking in often.

Starting out, you tap. A lot. The idea is you’re an adventurer trying to work your way through various levels of monsters. This isn’t done through conventional means, though. Instead, the screen displays the monster and you have to tap like crazy to inflict damage upon it. Kill the enemy and you gain some gold. Kill enough and you gain sufficient gold to hire a follower who can help provide some much needed DPS. So begins the path to never having to do much.

As you gain more and more gold, and put it towards new followers, you begin to realize something important: these followers inflict so much more damage than your taps. I ended up putting all my gold into my crew, as well as upgrading them, and then could pretty much sit back and watch them take everything out for me.

At regular points, you have to get involved to go up against a boss. Mostly because these bosses offer a strict 30 second time limit within which you need to defeat them, and often you have to go back and grind for a while to build up your DPS sufficiently to achieve this. Other times, you need to check in regularly in order to collect the treasure you'll find, as the game only stores so much on the side while you’re away from it.

That’s also where it gets you. Tapventures might play itself but I still found myself checking in often to collect gold and upgrade my characters. Intellectually, I knew this was all a bit pointless as there’s so little interaction, but there’s that drive to just see what the next unlockable character can do to your DPS or just how big that next boss is (and we’re talking trillions of HP eventually).

Of course, Tapventures is free so you’re only wasting precious free time here. You can opt to spend real money on a bigger treasure chest for temporary storage purposes, but this is far from essential. Instead, you can enjoy the very hands-off experience all for free. You’ll probably end up disliking yourself for it, but don’t be surprised when you have to see what happens next.
