Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s newly launched iPad Air 2 is one of the best tablets in the market. Some tech experts have called it the “best thing Apple has ever made.” It is better than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. However, it bears some similarity with the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPad Air 2 also bends out of shape. But the ease with which it bends is a bit unexpected.
The iPad Air 2 broke right in the middle
Marvin Machts of Germany posted a YouTube video demonstrating that the new super-slim iPad Air 2 can be bent easily. He used his hands to bend the TouchID-enabled tablet. In just a few seconds, the device broke right in the middle. Its display buckled and small pieces began to fall off. Fortunately, the iPad Air 2 was still working, if you could read from a fully damaged screen.
In real life, you are probably not going to apply so much pressure on your tablet or put it in your pocket. Note that bending is not a design flaw. Consumer Reports has said that any device with metal chassis would bend when applied certain pressure. That means you have to make a trade-off if you want a slimmer and lighter tablet.
iPad Air 2 is thinner, lighter, faster and better
The iPad Air 2 has a sleek design with just 6.1mm thickness. It’s easy to hold in one hand. It weighs 437g compared to its predecessor’s 469g. Apple doesn’t dwell on specifications. But a recent teardown by iFixit revealed that it sports a 64-bit A8X processor and M8 motion co-processor. Apple claims that the iPad Air 2 delivers double the graphics performance and 40% faster processing than its predecessor. It comes with 2GB RAM.
The Cupertino company has packed a smaller battery inside the iPad Air 2 to achieve the slimmer form factor. According to iFixit, it comes with 7340mAh battery compared to 8827mAh battery in its predecessor. Anyway, Apple promises the same 10 hours battery life. The iPad Air 2 sports 8-megapixel camera and 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. Apple has also added a Burst Mode and Slo-Mo mode to the new iPad.
