Offering some tough but lateral thinking based puzzles works well for The Impossible Test 3, even if its replayability is limited.

The third in a series of tough puzzle games, it’s tricky to know what to say about The Impossible Test 3. It’s the kind of game that can truly be summed up by saying ‘if you liked earlier games, you’ll like this’. That’s not a lazy cliche in this case. You’ll be occasionally infuriated, but it’s rewarding in its own way, too.

The idea is simple enough: you’re given 50 questions to answer in a specific order. They seem stupidly simple but there’s always a catch. One early puzzle offers up two rulers, each with different measurements written on them, and you’re left to decide which ruler is bigger. Instinct might lead you towards tapping the one that’s physically larger but it’s actually the one with the bigger measurement written on it.

That’s the kind of thinking you need to expect with The Impossible Test 3. Another puzzle might simply offer you a game controller and some instructions. You have to realize that you’re meant to input those controls to progress. There’s a timer counting down at all times, but you’re still left to your own devices in terms of how long you take to complete each puzzle.

You’re given a limited number of lives, so getting things right the first time is wise. Of course you can always simply replay the game and, provided you remember earlier solutions, there’s nothing to stop you from speeding through the title.

That’s where The Impossible Test 3 lacks some replayability as it becomes a memory exercise once you’ve deduced many of the puzzles. A mirror mode helps to an extent here, but it’s going to cost you to unlock early on. There are also medals to achieve for various things within the game. Ultimately though, there’s not much reason to go back for more once you’ve wrapped it up.

Still, The Impossible Test 3 is free and is quite an enjoyable if taxing experience while it lasts. It’ll certainly get those lateral thinking muscles going as you decipher just what it wants you to do next.
