Topping tech headlines on Wednesday was the launch of iOS 8.

The new mobile OS dropped around 1 p.m. ET. Usually, upgraders have been left waiting for hours as fans hose Apple's servers. This year, Apple put in "requests" for downloaders, which then notified people when they could begin the process. In other Apple news, Apple extended two-factor authentication to iCloud, which - if activated - would make it much harder for scammers to gain unauthorized access to iOS data that has been backed up to the cloud. Those who use iCloud with third-party apps like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, will be able to generate app-specific passwords beginning Oct. 1.

Meanwhile, Logitech's new Harmony Living Home remotes now integrate virtually any connected device installed in your home, and add support for features like smart locks, thermostats, and lights from a handful of manufacturers. The new Harmony Home lineup—the $99.99 standalone Home Hub and $149.99 Home Control and $349.99 Ultimate Home packages—will ship later this month.
