TechSmith AppShow Gives Developers a Jumpstart for App Store Video Creation

OKEMOS, Mich.--()--At the Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) in June, it was announced there are over 1.2 million apps available in the App Store. With 9 million registered developers – and users who visit the App Store 300 million times per week – how can you possibly make your app stand out in a crowded and highly trafficked marketplace? Well, officials at the WWDC also announced the introduction of App Store video previews, which as of last week are now available for developers to upload to iTunes Connect. To help make video creation even easier, TechSmith is introducing TechSmith AppShow.

Mac’s newest operating system OS X Yosemite will allow for iOS developers to create 30-second app preview videos, to appear alongside static images in the App Store. Since dynamic demonstration has been a barrier to overall success for many developers, TechSmith is excited to break up what has been a complex process into a nearly effortless one. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • What is it? TechSmith AppShow is a desktop application that capitalizes on Apple’s latest updates to easily capture the screens of iOS devices.
  • What does it do? It creates app preview videos, tutorials and explainer videos for the App Store.
  • Will it work on my iPhone or iPad? Once iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are available this fall, all you need is an iOS device that has a lightning port and is running the latest software.
  • Why is AppShow the ideal solution? With baked in Apple-approved guidelines and a handful of template selections, it’s more like dropping elements into place than starting from scratch; simply choose a template and record your desired segments. Best of all, your videos won’t ever go to waste – if you have an update, you can expand on videos already created without missing a beat.
  • What else can AppShow do? AppShow doesn’t short you video aesthetics; you can add everything from music to transitions, and soon enough you’ll be able to add touch events too. If you want a more robust video to satisfy other marketing needs, also coming down the pipeline is the option to easily transfer your project to Camtasia and add green screen effects, animation and more.

To start, the first users of TechSmith AppShow will be registered iOS developers and start-up designers making demos for the App Store. But once iOS 8 and Yosemite are widely available, we fully envision offering it to everyone. From marketers to software startups and gamers, AppShow will be a better way to show off what you know with pixel-perfect, 30-second videos.
