Apple giving retail employees iPhone 6… posters

In celebration of the launch of the iPhone 6, Apple Retail Store employees will each be given posters of the iPhone 6, we’re told. Not actual iPhones, but posters. The posters show a black phone with one of the colorful flower wallpapers from iOS 8. Steve Jobs gave out original iPhones to all employees back in 2007, but Apple hasn’t given out the latest hardware since that time. For 2015, perhaps they’ll get Apple Watches. Hopefully the gold ones.

Well, it’s something. They can probably sell those posters from a good amount of money.

Doubtful on the iWatch. I was hoping the same thing when I worked there during the iPad’s launch. Didn’t happen.

Doubtful on the what? What is an iWatch?

Ouch. That’s just cruel – here, have a thing reminding you of the thing that you really want.

Can’t they at least spare some of the leftover iPhone 4S’s?

For real? I bet those guys are so happy! I bet they’re all thinking they want to work for Apple for ever and ever and ever.

Apple gives nothing away unless you’re an A-list celebrity… why would they? People (including staff) queue for hours to pay full price.

Yep. From the outside the company looks great …

Still looks better than anything Samsung’s “designed.”

        Because they’re owed phones now?

I bet Samsung doesn’t give away phones to their employees when they release a new one. Mostly because they’d be giving new ones out every month. And because nobody wants them.

        Really, Samuel?
        You want to bet?
How do you know Samsung so well???

  6. Twice I’ve asked Apple Store employees to recommend either a phone or a case, and had them answer, “Oh, I don’t have an iPhone”. You’d think giving them a phone would be the best way to get your employees to learn about the phones and products, but I guess not…

      Very interesting, isn’t it?

I had the same experience when I was an Apple customer.

Steve Jobs 1, Tim Cook 0

  8. The Gold watches are going to cost $1299. I don’t think Apple’s going to be giving them away anytime soon.

The original iPhone giveaway was a way to give visibility what was (for Apple) a new product category in a competitive landscape. (Interestingly, several of my Apple engineer friends immediately sold theirs because they didn’t want to pay for a data plan.)

There is of course no such motivation for iPhone 6. I don’t think there was motivation for such a thing with the original iPad either, because (a) the landscape was not competitive, and (b) Apple had plenty of visibility with that product. I suspect the same is true for Apple Watch, and so I wouldn’t expect it to be given away either (but Tim Cook seems a bit more generous of a character than Steve Jobs was… so, who knows…).

      Good insight.

Apple will not be giving away Watches to its employees because it requires an iPhone to work. This would only highlight the fact that many Apple Retail employees can’t afford the products they sell.

Admittedly quite cheap and a bit of a low blow to their hard working staff.

maybe they can sell the posters on ebay for some 5 dollars
