Camu Review

With so many photography apps already out there, it's wise for any new product to focus on something that hasn't been perfected before. Camu does that with extra weighting placed on its selfie improving qualities, as well as some simple to use gesture-based controls.

On the surface, Camu is a pretty standard app. There's a small selection of filters, each applied on the fly by swiping left or right on screen. That's a more convenient touch than most apps, without any need to delve into menus, but it's still pretty simple. A swipe up or down affects the strength in which the filter is applied.

If you hold down on the main button, you can switch to video with the option again to apply filters directly. It's simple yet effective. Furthermore, you can split photos up via a real-time photo collage feature that's a bit basic (it only allows for two images) but still quite convenient.

The most appealing part of Camu, however, is its selfie mode. Love 'em or hate 'em, selfies are popular things these days and Camu has made the process that bit smoother. Using an auto mode, Camu only works once you stay still and no movement is visible. The app then takes the hopefully perfect photo of you in your selfie pose. It's a neat move in ensuring that you're ready and don't have to worry about quickly getting prepared like you would with a set timer. Camu complements such features with other handy bonuses such as being able to add text to your images or send the photo privately via the app to a friend, but the strength here is clearly its selfie potential.

For those of you who just can't go without snapping a few selfies, Camu does the job admirably. Its simple gesture system merely completes the package.
