Apple releases OS X Yosemite Public Beta 2 and a new iTunes 12 beta

August 21, 2014

Just a few days after releasing the sixth beta of OS X Yosemite for developers, Apple has just launched the second version of the desktop operating system’s public beta.

Registered users of the program can now download public beta 2 of OS X 10.10 through the Mac App Store. The first version arrived in late July.

The release notes don’t specify any specific improvements, only saying it is recommended for all users.

OS X Yosemite is expected to be available to the general public later this fall.

A new iTunes 12 beta, build 97, has also been released. The redesigned software mirrors the new UI changes in Yosemite. The new build offers a streamlined design and activates the Family Sharing functionality. It also offers a redesigned info window and improved playlists.

If you’re interested in taking a look at some of the other changes in iTunes 12, my colleague Bryan M. Wolfe authored a great walkthrough after the first beta was launched last month.

Most likely, iTunes 12 will arrive to the public along with OS X Yosemite in the fall.
