Dream Revenant takes players on a journey through a man's subconscious. And though it's full of bugs, it is still a crazy, wondrous ride while it lasts.

Entering the mind of a dying man named Carson, players will wake up in a deceptively serene dreamworld made up of his memories, experiences and creations as they try to make sense of their surroundings.

The game world has an open, exploration-orientated design, forcing players to search for clues and items that will help them pass from one area into another, uncovering more of Carson's troubled past. This is usually prompted by the discovery of a violin, and told through a 50's style comic book strip or a cinematic complete with stellar voice acting.

Players can interact with the environment in a variety of ways: from simple inspection to an item menu in which they can choose a suitable tool to affect an obstacle with. Standard stuff, but it's the special abilities that truly make the game shine. From a reaction-based mini-game that enables the use of telekinetic abilities, to X-Ray vision, to super-strength, Carson's imagination opens the realm of possibilities to him.

What's undeniable is that Dream Revenant is positively beautiful. The lighting effects are stunning, as is the sheer level of detail on display. Unfortunately there are some issues with stuttering and some unfortunate rendering, resulting in a game with some serious glitches and bugs that are bound to frustrate players again and again.

The world feels alive as fields blend into cityscapes, a stream runs red with blood, and a hurricane comes out of nowhere to tear the place apart. Combine all of that with supernatural abilities and what remains is a surreal and captivating game that grips players until the end. While that end might come sooner rather than later, with the game clocking in at roughly 2-3 hours play time, it's a memorable experience that is truly in a world of its own.
