Shazam launches official Mac menu bar app to help you identify songs around you

July 31, 2014

Shazam has long been available on iOS. But it's only now that the popular music identification service has been made natively available on Apple's other operating system.

Indeed, Shazam is now natively available on OS X thanks to the release of its official desktop app on the Mac App Store:

Download Shazam and bring the magic home. The app you've come to rely on as your go-to music expert has been given a major upgrade for your Mac. Catch the music and TV playing around you without ever digging a phone out of your pocket. Go nuts, match it all.

Residing comfortably on the Mac menu bar and taking advantage of the Auto Shazam technology introduced on iOS last year, Shazam operates quietly on the background to listen to songs playing around your Mac. When it finds a match, it automatically adds the track to its running playlist, all ready for you to find and share. It also offers one-click access to lyrics, music videos, and iTunes Store pages for tagged tracks.

Compatible with OS X 10.9 or later, Shazam is available now on the Mac App Store for free.

The release of Shazam for Mac comes roughly a couple of months ahead of the official launch of Siri's Shazam integration in iOS 8.
