It feels like there are countless different restaurants, bars, and eateries all keen for one's money and patronage. What's the best way of figuring out where's worth eating though? Taste Savant is a new app that aims to make such a process much simpler and more relevant. The app is currently limited to restaurants in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston, but it certainly has potential.

Requiring a quick sign up, with Facebook or Twitter being most convenient when hooking up with other friends, the app allows one to browse for places near them or places that friends or critics rate highly. Filtering the search results is pretty extensive with users able to narrow things down by distance, price, and type of cuisine easily enough.

A tap on any restaurant then offers up brief info, a summary of what critics and users think as well as map details. Scroll down and it's possible to make a reservation via Open Table, as well as view the menu. The latter is my favorite option as, after all, I want to know that there's something delicious out there to tantalize my tastebuds!

It's all very clearly laid out with there often being a fine mixture of critical and user reviews out there. User reviews are particularly handy when looking for a recommendation as it's possible to include a favored dish in the listing. Adding a review is simple to do too, with sliders affecting scores, plus more detailed explanation of what works and doesn't work for the establishment.

Throughout, Taste Savant is classily laid out, offering social features that are never overwhelming. The focus is always squarely on finding the user a good place to dine out. Being able to follow people is handy though, especially when looking for somewhere completely new.

Taste Savant will have a restricted user base for now, given the limited number of cities it caters for at the moment, but those people will benefit from the app. Useful and inexpensive, it's a convenient way to find a new place to visit.
