Fans of Edovia’s ‘Screens’ application will be happy to hear that the studio has updated the popular VNC client for Mac to version 3.0. The release follows a major update to the iOS app in December, and brings an all-new design, several new features and various other improvements.

For those who haven’t used Screens VNC before, it enables you to connect to your Windows, Mac or Linux computer from virtually anywhere in the world. The remote connection is secure, and provides access to your files, applications, media, text documents and much more…

Here are your version 3.0 release notes:

We’re happy to offer this new 3.0 version for free! There are a lot of new features and improvements that you’ll enjoy:

– Complete rewrite of the app
– Brand new UI
– Menu bar icon to access recent and discovered items
– Recent connections
– Export connections as files
– New key mappings for system keyboard shortcuts
– Much improved VNC/Screen Sharing engine
– Faster than ever!
– Many other small details that we think will make you smile

Note that you’ll need some type of VNC Server, such as UltraVNC or TightVNC, to connect to a Windows PC. And both Windows and Linux users will need to configure their routers and computers manually to connect remotely, and an SSH Server is required to connect securely.

I’ve long been a big fan of the Splashtop VNC client for iOS and Mac, but Screens VNC comes in at a close second. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in search of new VNC software. It’s a bit pricey though. You can find Screens VNC for Mac in the Mac App Store for $34.99.
