Ready for iOS 7? Apple's next mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch is due out soon, but it's not publicly available just yet! We installed an early release that's exclusive to Apple app developers—which you can do, too, if you sign up to become an app developer and install the beta of iOS 7 (it costs $99, though.)

Alexis Madrigal, senior editor at The Atlantic, put it best: "If you're an iPhone user, everything—your email, your calendar, your texts, your phone dialer, your photos, your notes—will look and work differently."

In this video, we show you the radical new interface, how some of the most basic of features work differently, and a few other improvements that we're really excited about.

In case you're restricted from seeing the video, here are a few close-ups of some of the new features.

iOS 7 Control Center

You can see the new control center, which you get to by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, has many more controls than it did in iOS 6.

In this next image, you'll see the multitasking bar, which you get to by tapping the home button twice any time the phone is unlocked.

iOS 7 Multitasking Bar

Including preview images in the multitasking bar resembles how Android handles this same function. For iOS users, it's definitely an improvement.

If you want to see more cool features coming to iPhones and iPads soon, check out these six overlooked features of iOS 7. Many of the overlooked features are hidden in the settings, and a couple of them better protect your privacy online.

I've been contributing to PCMag since 2011 and am currently the deputy managing editor for the software team. My column, Get Organized, has been running on PCMag since 2012. It gives advice on how to manage all the devices, apps, digital photos, email, and other technology that can make you feel like you're going to have a panic attack.

My latest book is The Everything Guide to Remote Work, which goes into great detail about a subject that I've been covering as a writer and participating in personally since well before the COVID-19 pandemic.

I specialize in apps for productivity and collaboration, including project management software. I also test and analyze online learning services, particularly for learning languages.

Prior to working for PCMag, I was the managing editor of Game Developer magazine. I've also worked at the Association for Computing Machinery, The Examiner newspaper in San Francisco, and The American Institute of Physics. I was once profiled in an article in Vogue India alongside Marie Kondo.
