2007 called and they want their rumor back. Apple is said to be testing a range of smartphones with larger displays, including a monster 6-inch iPhone. But don’t get too excited, because we won’t be getting a larger, more satisfying in the hand iPhone until 2014.

Wall Street Journal, which has an on-again and off-again rumor record, is reporting that Apple is testing iPhones with displays from 4.8 inches to 6 inches in size.

“The electronics giant has begun evaluating a plan to offer iPhones with screens ranging from 4.8 inches to as high as 6 inches, people familiar with the matter say,” informs the WSJ. “Apple has been particularly interested in recent tests for a 4.8-inch screen…”

Of course, similar rumors have circulated just ahead of Apple’s annual smartphone refresh — count on it again next year.

Again, as stated in the lede, a 4.8-inch or larger iPhone won’t arrive until 2014 at the earliest.

Apple’s Fall 2013 smartphone refresh will include the low-cost, multi-colored iPhone 5C and high-end iPhone 5S with fingerprint scanner, improved camera and snappier processor.

Is the iPhone 5C calling your name or will you wait for next year’s bigger, perhaps 6-inch iPhone?
