Judging An iPhone By Its Cover: Out Of Print Launches New 'Literary' iPhone 5 Cases

August 14, 2013
The so-called iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C have been all but confirmed to be announced next month. But nevertheless, Out of Print has launched its new line of "literary" cases for the iPhone 5. Which is just as well, since there's never not enough room for great stuff inspired by great literature, right? Out of Print is best known for selling shirts (of which I've purchased quite a few) featuring iconic and often out-of-print covers of classic books. But the company also offers "bookish" accessories, stationery, and gift ideas. In October last year, for example, Out of Print began offering what it calls "eBook jackets," or cases designed to make tablets, including iPads, look like classic books. Priced at $50 each for the iPad 2, third-generation iPad, and fourth-generation iPad, Out of Print's eBook jackets feature the covers of the following books: "The Great Gatsby," "Alice in Wonderland," "A Clockwork Orange," "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," "Slaughterhouse-Five," "Moby-Dick," "Lolita," "Pride and Prejudice," "Invisible Man," "On the Road," "Atlas Shrugged," "1984," and "Jane Eyre." Out of Print also offers cases for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S at $25 each. These are canvas-wrapped cases with cover art from "A Clockwork Orange," "The Outsiders," "Moby-Dick," "The Hound of the Baskervilles," and in one special case (heh), a colorful pop take on Edgar Allan Poe's famous image. And now, Out of Print has finally started selling cases for the iPhone 5. Like the cases for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, these new iPhone 5 cases cost $25 each. But unlike the same, these are hard shell cases with cover art (on the outside) and lines (on the inside) inspired by the following classics: "Alice in Wonderland," "The Call of the Wild," "Romeo and Juliet," "The Great Gatsby," "A Clockwork Orange," and "1984." The new line of iPhone 5 cases also includes a polka-dot take on Poe punningly called Poe-ka Dots and a design inspired by the mock library card that comes with every Out of Print shirt. As mentioned, these specially designed iPhone 5 cases are available now from Out of Print. Note that every purchase of an iPhone 5 case, or any product for that matter, from Out of Print donates one book to a community in need.
