Righteous Kill 2: Revenge Of The Poet Killer Review

Much like its predecessor, Righteous Kill 2: Revenge of the Poet Killer is an okay Hidden Object game but it lacks a certain spark that will truly excite. On the other hand, it is at least slightly better than the original.

Following the destructive path of the Poet Killer, a murderer who leaves some pretty creepy notes behind, players control an NYPD detective as she attempts to unravel the mystery. What this actually means for the player is a series of Hidden Object scenes, bundled in amongst some puzzles.

As is always the way with such games, there are plenty of different locations to explore, seeking out various objects. This time round most of the items make some kind of sense, which adds to the challenge in digging them out. There's the added bonus of being able to view either individual item's silhouette or a list of the different things, too. Adding to the detective-style gameplay, there's the need to use items such as a cotton swab for a blood sample, or using a torch to light up a dark area. These combinations of items go some way to making things more interesting.

There's more detective work away from the Hidden Object scenes, too, with dusting for fingerprints and reassembling torn up documents. It's pretty standard stuff, although there is a glimmer of inspiration from one original puzzle - spotting the differences between four different perspectives of the same area. It's a neat move and one that's easily the most interesting and original feature here.

Other than that, however, Righteous Kill 2 is a tad run-of-the-mill. On a technical level, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the game. It just lacks a certain spark that makes it particularly exciting. At least, unlike the previous game, there's a decent amount of content to enjoy for the price.
