Apple Acquires Matcha

Acquisitions_CLAW_380Earlier this summer, video-discovery outfit Matcha disappeared without explanation, leaving behind just a “this service is no longer available” message as a monument to its effort to create a social TV and movie recommendation engine. Now it’s clear why: The company had been acquired by Apple.

A spokesman for Apple confirmed the deal to AllThingsD. A purchase price couldn’t be learned at this time, though VentureBeat, which first reported the deal, says it’s valued at between $1 million and $1.5 million.

Matcha is the latest in a string of recent small acquisitions by Apple, which include crowdsourced location-data company Locationary and online transit-navigation app maker HopStop.
