Save the world by flicking rocks at increasingly large aliens. It's simple yet quite challenging.

Taking some getting used to, Eyes Attack is a pretty challenging form of shoot em up. I say shoot em up, that's a pretty flexible definition given it's unlike most other shooters out there. One thing is for sure: it's pretty cute.

Players control a blue ball of fluff called Hunter as he attempts to fend off the seemingly never ending supply of alien eyes out to destroy the planet. Hunter is pretty limited in terms of attacking prowess with only a few rocks available to fend them off with. Timing and careful flicking is crucial to success and, well, it's not always easy.

Controls are of the tilting variety with a tap on screen unleashing a rock. While tilting is pretty responsive, working out when to unleash a rock can be tricky. Tapping on screen while mid-tilt flings the rock to the side, hopefully bouncing off the ground or wall and leading to the destruction of an alien. Each rock is able to take out more than one alien at a time, leading to some impressive and satisfying combos. Don't expect it to be easy, though. Eyes Attack is a pretty challenging game throughout, especially in the early stages. Given players can work their way through the city, desert, volcano, and more, there's plenty of time to master things.

The difficulty level is tempered somewhat once enough spare eyes have been collected, leading to the acquisition of power-ups. It's possible to increase Hunter's health, as well as the girl he must protect in some stages. Power-ups such as invincibility and a laser weapon are also up for grabs, alongside more colorful things such as charming hats.

Of course, it's possible to skip ahead and spend real money on such upgrades, but I found the steady trickle of eyes ensured there wasn't much of a need to.

Eyes Attack starts out quite challenging, which will no doubt prove a little off-putting to players looking for a more causal thrill, but it's worth persevering. As the upgrades start becoming more viable it balances out more smoothly, just in time for one to master its controls. With plenty of levels available, it'll certainly keep the determined player happy for a while to come.
