In War With Apple, Samsung Ups Ad Spend

This article is more than 10 years old.

Samsung increased its advertising spending more than any other company in the U.S. market last year in its ongoing attempt to unseat Apple iPhones as the No. 1 seller.

According to data from Ad Age, Samsung upped the ante by 58% and spent $881 million in advertising last year, most of it for its Galaxy devices.

In a year that saw overall ad spending of the nation's 100 leading advertisers increase by just 2.8%, Samsung outspent everyone in percentage terms. It also outspent other companies as well, including Apple which spent around $1 billion in 2012, Ad Age estimated.

Samsung's total U.S. ad spend was equivalent to one fifth of the company's global ad budget.
