iOS app revamped to match news provider's responsive-design website, with an emphasis on video

News at Ten producer ITN has launched a new app for iPhone and iPad, with a design that matches its website.

The new iOS app launched on Apple's App Store on Saturday (22 June) as a free download for iOS devices.

It's a native-app wrapper for the ITN website, which itself relaunched in July 2012 as a responsive design HTML5 site that adapted itself to whatever device it was being accessed from: smartphone, tablet or computer.

This isn't ITN's first news app, however. In February 2009, ITN released a free news app for iPhone, and later ported it to Android. That app remains available for now on Apple's platform, alongside the newer version.

In April 2010, ITN also launched the fashion-focused The Fashion 411 app for iPhone, with a companion YouTube channel. It also partnered with mobile agency AlwaysOnMessage for the Diamond Jubilee Tour app in June 2012.

The apps have accompanied ITN's move onto YouTube with a similar mix of its own channels and partnerships.

Its ITN On division launched an entertainment and sports channel on YouTube in October 2007, following it with channels focused on music and news in April 2008, then books in July 2009, and a Royal Wedding channel in January 2011.

Meanwhile, ITN Productions launched a citizen journalism channel called Truthloader on YouTube in November 2012, after securing funding from Google's video service as part of its Original Channels initiative.

That channel currently has more than 146k subscribers and has generated more than 7.8m video views. The main ITN channel has 107k subscribers and 274m total views, meanwhile.

ITN's new iOS app will have plenty of competition from broadcasters on the App Store in the UK, including BBC News, Sky News, CNN and Al Jazeera English
