Fans of old-fashioned looking photos should appreciate Viewmatic. Its sole intention is to turn images into the kind of things that one would see through the viewfinder of a classic film camera. It achieves that quite well.

Admittedly, things start out slightly awkwardly given that users must selectively import images into the app, rather than en masse. On the plus side, this means the lineup within Viewmatic is never cluttered with images that are irrelevant or, in my case, screenshots from other titles. However, for those wanting to import lots at a time, it's a bit annoying having to tap on each photo to import.

Fortunately, things get a lot simpler once a photo has been selected for editing. A text based overlay ensures that users know what each button does, which is always a welcome touch. It's possible to focus on one small section, just like a viewfinder, as well as add filters, brightness based effects and frames to the image.

The filters are reasonably attractive, for the most part, with all focused on looking quite old-fashioned as one would expect of the viewfinder era. In each case, an intensity bar can be adjusted to change how strongly the effect is applied. The frames are a particularly nice touch, really evoking the memories of older photos from eras gone by.

Sharing options encompass all the popular places, such as email, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Flickr, with each proving quite easy to implement.

The only slight problem lies with Viewmatic's strength. Its focus on old-fashioned styles means it's not a "one size fit all" type filtering app. Instead, it's more one to use within certain situations meaning it might not be the ideal app for everyone. However, for those looking for an older style to their images, its results are quite pleasant and consistently easy to implement.
