Dead Crossing Review

Dead Crossing is a driving action game from Feelingtouch Inc., where road rage is encouraged and hitting zombified pedestrians is common place.

I played as a survivor of “Virus Z," the catalyst for the undead outbreak, guiding my vehicle through the obstacle-laced roadways. The most difficult of these hurdles was the zombie hitchers, each who tried to repay the provided ride by eating my face. Dispatching the unwelcomed is the peak of the fun; unfortunately, the valley below is bare and generic.

There is a story to Dead Crossing that is conveyed upon its opening and through level design as each layout is bleak and desolate. Unfortunately, the plot is never mentioned past the prologue and thus makes each mission feel uninspired. Said missions are preceded by vehicle and weapon customizations that change driving maneuvers and shooting damage. Several in-app purchases are available to gain an advantage early as Dead Crossing quickly scales to a higher difficulty.

The mission objectives are somewhat bland: reach the level’s end while killing the allotted number of walkers. This formula is repeated too often--I feel like there's potential for a greater variety of challenges.

The controls are more responsive than expected; the tilt controls to guide the vehicle become increasingly interesting as zombies pile on the gunnery jalopy. As it rocked from side to side, I needed to be diligent in my maneuvering, as giving too much movement to an overloaded side resulted in a crash.

I was provided the ability to shoot from the vehicle but the tapping mechanic was severely erratic and not as enjoyable as just plowing through the zombie horde. With optional turbo boosts to escape hostiles and a shockwave special to cleanse the area, there are a plethora of ways to dispatch zombies though none are too compelling individually.

As a driving app, Dead Crossing has a cool premise but the below-average gameplay options ultimately hinder the spirit of the apocalyptic mayhem.
