August Smart Lock makes your deadbolt lock smart

The August is wireless device that attaches onto a deadbolt door lock. The idea is its a mechanical switch to lock and unlock your standard deadbolt lock. The system works with an accompanying app which allows for handsfree unlocking. As you approach the door with your iPhone, it will automatically unlock for you. In addition to that, it you can assign access to others and also include time restrictions. Each user who opens the door is also logged and you will be notified when they arrive and leave. The device works over Bluetooth and doesn't appear to have a WiFi link, so unlocking would seem to immediate access to the door.

The August attaches to the inside of the door, so the outside looks normal and the key still works. On the inside there's a round disk-like device with a LED light indicating whether the door is locked or unlocked.

The device runs in AAA batteries and should last between six months to a year. The system runs on low-powered Bluetooth 4.0, so you'll need an iPhone 4S or later or at least an iPad 3rd gen.

The August is expected to ship later this year for $199.
